Origami Kids Challenge 2021
Join our challenge and fold origami cranes to contribute to the NPO, Feeding America!
Origami Kids – one of the programs managed by Hub Park – focuses on families with children. We started a fundraising campaign, “Origami Kids Challenge” in 2020 and this is our 2nd Challenge!
According to the report published by the United States Department of Agriculture(*1), about 11 percent of households face food insecurity. Moreover, COVID-19 has led to an increase in food insecurity, especially among households with young children(*2).
This event is our action to help people who are food insecure or facing difficulty and also create an opportunity for people to learn about Japanese culture. Origami Kids Challenge is for people of all ages and backgrounds and is an easy-to-join volunteer opportunity.
🌸“1 Origami Crane＝$1＝10 meals”
Hub Park and sponsor organizations will donate $1 to Feeding America for every crane that is uploaded to social media with the hashtag #Origamikidschallenge. As a result, 10 meals will be provided for every $1 donated to children and families who are food insecure. The more photos posted, the more food will be secured to help end hunger nationwide.
The Origami Crane is a design that is considered to be the most classic of all Japanese origami. A thousand origami cranes strung together is called senbazuru (千羽鶴), meaning “a thousand cranes”. It was believed that if one folded 1000 origami cranes, one’s wish would come true. It has also become a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times.

🌸How to participate
Step 1：Make an origami crane(s)
Step 2：Take a photo(s) with or without people
Step 3：Post your photo(s) on your social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) using the hashtag #Origamikidschallenge

＊Hub Park will donate 85% of all donations to Feeding America, even if the total exceeds our target goal. The remaining 15% will be used to further Hub Park’s non-profit activities.
🌸Our Goal
Last year, we aimed to collect 1,000 cranes virtually since people in Japan fold a thousand paper cranes to wish for things like peace, happiness, longevity and speedy recovery from illness. We raised $1023, which provided 10,230 meals to families who are food insecure in the United States.
This year, our goal is to donate $2021!
We are hoping for people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in this challenge!

Origami Kids Challenge 2021
折り鶴で小さな社会貢献をしよう！
非営利団体Hub Parkが運営するプログラムのひとつOrigami Kidsは、アメリカで子育てをする日本人家族の支援を目的にスタートしました。またHub Parkは、日本のルーツを大切にしながら、アメリカコミュニティと積極的に関わっていくことをビジョンに掲げています。そこで2020年にスタートしたチャリティキャンペーンが “Origami Kids Challenge” です。今年も第２回のチャレンジを開催します！
アメリカには現在、様々な理由で十分な食事や栄養がとれない人々が数多くいます。米農務省（USDA）の報告書(*１)によると、アメリカ国内の11パーセントにのぼる世帯が安定した食料供給が得られていないことになります。さらに新型コロナウイルスの影響により、特に小さな子供のいる世帯でその数は益々増加しています。(*２)
チャリティキャンペーン“Origami Kids Challenge”は、この問題への認識を深め、日本の文化である折り鶴を使って解決の一助となるために企画したイベントです。同時に、アメリカをはじめとする海外の人々が日本文化である折り紙や千羽鶴の伝統に触れる機会となるだけでなく、大人から小さな子供までどんなバックグラウンドの人でも簡単に参加できるボランティアの機会となることを願ってスタートしました。
🌸「折り鶴１羽＝＄１＝10食分の貢献」
“Origami Kids Challenge”は、千羽鶴の伝統になぞらえて、折り鶴の写真をSNSにハッシュタグ#Origamikidschallengeをつけて投稿すると、Hub Parkと協賛企業により１羽につき＄１がFeeding Americaに寄付されるチャリティキャンペーンです。$1につき10食分が支援を必要とする家族に届きます。

Step 1：折り鶴を折る
Step 2：折り鶴の写真を撮る（折り鶴のみでも人物入りでも可）
